Alchemical Equations
This is an ongoing series of studies in many different forms that seek to reinforce the notion that art and math are two sides of the same mobius strip, that an artists' rigorous studies into their craft mirrors the same in math, and the beauty found in mathematical patterns in turn mirrors that found in art.
Every piece is meticulously designed to allow for animations through Origami Simulator, then scored with a laser cutter, folded, airbrushed to capture some color, and then flattened, and each one is accompanied with a matching diagram that shows the precise method of design. Every series starts with a "sandbox series" which is a geometric progression that exemplifies the concept I'm trying to explore. After the sandbox series is created, the rest of the study is "playing in the sandbox" and includes variants outside of the boundaries of that initial series.
